A top Trump campaign adviser blasted former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan after the GOP Senate hopeful said Americans should ‘respect the verdict’ of the hush money trial.
‘You just ended your campaign,’ senior Trump campaign adviser Chris LaCivita posted to X Thursday evening.
After departing the governor’s mansion in January, Hogan launched a surprise Senate bid in March and easily won the state’s Republican primary earlier this month.
He’ll face Democrat Angela Alsobrooks in the fall.
The former Maryland governor has been critical of former President Donald Trump, which has helped him remain popular in the blue-leaning state.
Maryland hasn’t elected a Republican to the U.S. Senate since 1980.
‘Regardless of the result, I urge all Americans to respect the verdict and the legal process,’ Hogan posted to X Thursday shortly before the verdict was announced.
‘At this dangerously divided moment in our history, all leaders – regardless of party – must not pour fuel on the fire with more toxic partisanship,’ the former governor continued.
‘We must reaffirm what has made this nation great,’ Hogan added. ‘The rule of law.’
Hogan’s comments came shortly before a Manhattan jury found Trump guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records related to hush money payments given to porn star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election.
Most Republicans immediately took Trump’s side in the matter, suggesting that the New York-based trial was biased or rigged.
‘Our whole country is being rigged right now,’ Trump huffed as he left the courtroom. ‘This was done by the Biden administration in order to vote to wound or hurt an opponent, a political opponent. And I think it’s just a disgrace.’
A number of Republicans piled on and attacked Hogan.
Disgraced former New York GOP Rep. George Santos replied to Hogan’s tweet and called the Senate hopeful a ‘Spineless weak loser!’
‘If I lived in Maryland, I would never vote for Larry Hogan under any circumstances; the man has no principles, no scruples,’ said conservative radio personality Mark Levin.
Sara Gonzales, a Blaze TV host, told Hogan, ‘Go f*** yourself, b****.’
Hogan ignored the commentary, posting photos of a recent visit to a senior home on Friday.
